Fall colours have been wanting good within the Metropolis of Pittsburgh this week. A maple in Schenley Park turned shades of orange and crimson whereas the dawn labored to match it.

This acorn in Schenley Park is a squirrel’s dream come true, the largest acorn native to North America. Bur oaks (Quercus macrocarpa additionally spelled burr oak) have been planted in a number of locations within the park greater than 100 years in the past, most notably on the most important path entrance close to Bartlett Playground. This species withstands harsh situations and is likely one of the most drought resistant oaks.

Goldenrods are blooming within the small meadow close to Bartlett Playground.

Throughout my stroll to Schenley Plaza on 11 October I noticed a peregrine fly towards Heinz Chapel’s scaffolding and disappear among the many dense rods.

If he hadn’t moved I’d not have discovered him. Ta dah! (See inside crimson circle.)

Amazingly he was simpler to see by means of binoculars from Schenley Plaza tent. Too far for a photograph.
